Simpson and Poth secure Paralympic silver for Great Britain

Silver Secured🥈

Great Britain celebrated its first medal of the 2026 Winter Paralympics after Neil Simpson and his guide Rob Poth produced a brilliant performance to claim silver in the alpine combined at the 2026 Winter Paralympics in Milan–Cortina.

A Comeback Performance

The alpine combined event tests athletes across two disciplines: the high-speed super-G and the technically demanding slalom. Competitors’ times from both runs are combined to determine the final standings.

Simpson and Poth began the day sitting fourth after the super-G, narrowly missing out on the podium positions by just over half a second. However, the British pair delivered when it mattered most. In the slalom run they posted the fastest time of the day, allowing them to climb two places and seal the silver medal.

A Growing Partnership

For Simpson, the result marks the third Paralympic medal of his career. The Scottish skier made history at the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing when he became the first British male athlete to win gold on snow, guided by his brother Andrew Simpson.

Since then, Simpson has formed a new partnership with Poth, and the duo have steadily developed their communication and trust on the slopes. For Poth, the silver medal in Milan–Cortina represents his first Paralympic podium at his debut Games.
