Airbag Landings

How Airbags Change Snowsports Progression

Snowsports are evolving fast. Skiers and snowboarders are learning tricks earlier, pushing harder, and progressing quicker than ever before. That means the way we train has to evolve too. One of the biggest changes is the introduction of airbag landings.

A Safer Way to Learn

Airbags are large inflatable landings that cushion impact when riders fall or land tricks. They create a much safer environment to try new skills without the same risk you’d get on traditional snow or park features.

Andy, Head of Snowsports, explains that “Our custom airbag landings, designed and imported from America, give us the opportunity to coach in a much safer way. We are the only snow centre in the UK to offer this.”

For learners, this makes a big difference. You can try things with more confidence, knowing the landing is forgiving.

Faster Progression Through Repetition

Airbags also allow for quick repetition. Riders can hit the same jump again and again in a short space of time. That repetition is key. It helps build timing, balance, and muscle memory much faster than traditional setups. Andy shares “People can perform quick laps hitting the same jumps in a controlled environment, which leads to faster progression.”

Building Confidence

A big part of learning freestyle skiing and snowboarding is confidence, and fear of falling can often slow people down. Airbag landings help remove much of that pressure by creating a safer environment to learn in. This means riders are free to try new tricks, make mistakes, and try again without hesitation, which makes the learning process feel more natural and far less intimidating.

Future of Freestyle Progression

As skiing and snowboarding continue to evolve, training methods are evolving with them. Airbag landings represent a clear step forward in how athletes learn, practice, and progress. For riders looking to push boundaries safely, and for coaches aiming to deliver faster progression, airbag systems are becoming less of an innovation and more of a necessity.

If you want to have a go for yourself join us on the last Saturday of the month at our Big Send Sessions, from 7:30pm, we’re transforming your usual freestyle night into a dedicated airbag takeover, giving you the space to send new tricks, go bigger and bail safely while you dial everything in.
