The Annual Who’s the Daddy Competition returned to the SnowDome for the latest battle for bragging rights between skiers and snowboarders. With tonnes of prizes up for grabs the show down was highly contested and brought a lot of familiar faces back to the slope.
With MC Tim Sandy on the mic and a judging panel made up of previous Who’s the Daddy champions Ben Izzard and Dale Taylor ready to cast their all seeing eyes over the efforts of the competitors.
We start off all friendly with the Double Up Daddy. Skiers and snowboarders unite to pair up and throw down a run of their best slope style tricks over any of the obstacles to impress the judges. Up for grabs was not one, but two holidays to Andorra. The competition was tight and after serious deliberation from the judges the winners of the Double Up Daddy 2011 were… Calum Paton on his board and Josh Jenkins on his skis who put down a slick run to grab the prize.
The warm up runs in the quarter pipe had started and was immediately showing signs of being a classic showdown! Through qualifying the judges compiled the list finalists. The Quarter pipe competition takes no prisoners as the competitors drop in from the top of the slope to carry as much speed as possible to launch as high up the tombstone as possible. The outcome is simple, whoever goes biggest scoops the prize of The Daddy Pass, 6 whole months of unlimited slope time at the SnowDome. The list of 6 finalists included 3 snowboarders… Alex Wayne, Ross Needham and Steve Owen, and 3 skiers… Ollie Powel, Josh Herrant and former champion Charlie Smith.
After qualifying, all head to the bar to recharge the batteries with Jamie West on the decks and break dancers providing the half time entertainment. As soon as everyone is back on the slope, the finalist are sent to the top to take the first of two final runs. After round one, the skiers were setting the standard with Ollie Powel reaching the top of the 8ft high tombstone. The final run saw Charlie Smith achieve a massive height of 22ft off the ground clearing the tombstone to win this years Who’s The Daddy 2011 Title for the skiers. The runner up prize went to Ollie Powel and best female went to Becky Pullen.
There were more prizes to be given out so it was over to the Grand Prix Kicker for the Big Air Competition which saw Tom James take the bag of goodies with a massive back flip.
The final prizes were for overall performances of the night. For the snowboarders, Ross Needham grabbed the Prize of an Artec Snowboard by showing style all night and representing the snowboarders in the quarter pipe finals. The Best skier on the night went to Josh Herrant for an all-round impressive performance in all competitions seeing him walk away with a shiny new pair of Salomon Threat skis.
With all the prizes given to the well deserving competitors and pretty much everyone going home with some loot, the night drew to a close.
A massive thanks to all the competitors, judges and Tim Sandy, and well done to all the winners.
Same time next year??
