Now 15 – Now that’s what I call entertainment!

Review by Dan Botham.

Now 15 was the 15th anniversary of the SnowDome. It was all about people dressing in retro 90’s clothes and going back to the old school out on the hill. The night was amazing with Tim Warwood on the mic, some serious 90’s style tricks and crazy head spinning break-dancers in the bar. This event was not to be missed. Every competitor had some kind of 90’s clothing on from crazy ‘tu-tu’ costumes to wild one-pieces.

I turned up early expecting to be one of the first there; however the car park was already full. I walked in with my retro, shocking pink one-piece and matching pink glasses not knowing what to expect.
I headed to the bar where a lot of the riders were already chatting away, wearing some crazy outfits. Staff even dressed up for the occasion! I knew this was going to be an amazing night and the atmosphere was thick with anticipation!

There was a great turnout of both skiers and snowboarders, I would say it was pretty much 50:50. The night kicked off with Tim Warwood encouraging everyone to try out some of the 15 old school tricks.
Throughout the evening we had lots of things to try. One of the most popular was throwing down old tricks off the grand prix which had been altered by Marc Chester at the SnowDome to make it look how it did when it was first built back in the day. One of the most impressive riders of the night was Ross Needham. He had been landing everything, showing what he was made of on the box and giant gas pipe – he was unstoppable. He definitely deserved his prize of best snowboarder of the night.

There were so many riders on the hill and when it came to winning prizes everyone wanted to get involved in one of the craziest events – ‘The Chinese Downhill’. This was a race from top to bottom. The winner would be the first to high-five Tim Warwood at the foot of the slope. There must have been around 100 people at the top. It was head to head who would win, a skier or a boarder? The crowd was ready and raring to get down the hill. Then we were off and somehow I found myself at the front of the race, high-fiving Tim first! It was a holiday prize for me!
After the Chinese Downhill it was time for the groom. Everyone pilled into the bar to have a much needed break. Waiting for us to my surprise… old school pineapple and cheese on sticks and even birthday cake! We were treated to some amazing entertainment from Smiley Mic and the Trinity Warriors Bboy crew. Smiley Mic put on a great show and the Trinity Warriors busted some serious moves – these guys were awesome!

After the groom it was time to get back to business. The riders carried on throwing it down all night with the 15 tricks and everyone was having fun. The best 90’s trick prize, 6 months free riding at the SnowDome, went to Joe Sandy!
Other big mentions must go to George Woolley for best fancy dress in his one-piece gold number! Wayne Day for his spectacular landing into Ducks Crossing and walking away with the giant Vans shoe! Jules Chapel for her longest ollie! Thomas Frampton was best overall skier, with some mind blowing moves and Sissy Herant for her fantastic daffy! Big thanks must go to the SnowDome locals and also to those that travelled from far and wide, the gang from London, Bath and Wales. Finally, thank you to Tim Warwood, Adam Gendal and Tim Sandy – SnowDome legends at their best!

As the evening drew to an end, it was obvious everyone had had an unforgettable night and this was certainly one to reminisce about in the future. I would like to thank the SnowDome team for a great event and all the effort that went into organising it.
Congratulations to all the winners and competitors.

Dan Botham.
