Well, you’ve come to the right place! Learning to snowboard is a very rewarding and exciting experience to be remembered. You only do it the once!
On average a beginner attends just 4 group lessons in order to learn how to snowboard i.e. to reach the Recreational Standard. You can learn even quicker than this, and save money in the process, with the ‘Combi’ lessons or why not try the Learn To Snowboard In A Day Course.
Adult snowboard lessons are available for persons 17 years and over and Junior snowboard lessons for children aged 10-16 years, see below.
Please note that due to the physical nature of snowboarding the minimum age for lessons is 10 years old.
For safety reasons members of the public are not allowed to teach.
55 mins, max 6 per instructor

Snowboard 1
The first lesson for complete beginners. Includes a safety brief, introduction to the equipment, basic moves and ascertaining your leading leg. You will gain control of your ‘toe edge’ (looking up the slope) throughout the lesson whilst descending down the slope moving from left to right and vice versa. This technique is called the ‘toe side falling leaf’ manoeuvre.
Snowboard 2
Recap of Snowboard 1 introducing ‘Heel Edge’ control. The same manoeuvre will be used, descending the slope moving left to right and vice versa but this time looking down the slope. This exercise is called the ‘heel side falling leaf’.
Snowboard 3
Recap Snowboard 2 and learn to ride with more weight on your leading leg and traverse across the slope. This is practised on both toe and heel edge. When basic control is achieved, whilst traversing, leading leg ‘steering’ is introduced to produce a stepping manoeuvre across the slope. This technique is called ‘garlands’ and is introduced on both toe and heel edge.
Snowboard Finisher (1hr 55mins)
Recap Snowboard 3 and attempt to complete your first basic turn on the slope. Toe to heel and heel to toe basic turns are then practiced before the first ‘linked turn’ is attempted. You will then gain confidence and go for longer descends from higher up the slope. After showing the necessary ability to snowboard from the top of the slope, in control, you will then be passed on to recreational practise to gain further experience without the supervision of an instructor.
All lessons must be pre-booked and pre-paid and remain non refundable and non-transferable. Depending upon personal ability a lesson may have to be repeated before progressing to the next level. On arrival, check-in at SnowDome reception, then head downstairs to Ski Hire to get changed, obtain all equipment and go to your designated meeting point to wait for your instructor. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your lesson, as late arrivals cannot always be accommodated.
