Elements Outdoor First Aid Training

Required course for BASI instructors with recognised certificate valid for 3 years

Duration: 2 days/16 hours

Elements First Aid Training provide exceptional First Aid courses to groups of individuals in the UK and overseas. Specialising in both urban and remote environments, courses are tailored to your needs to ensure the content is relevant to your home, work, school or leisure place.

Elements First Aid Training was established by Flora Cook. With nearly 7 years of experience on front line 999 ambulances in central London, Flora has very real experience and deals with accidents and emergencies on a daily basis. Flora is also a keen skier/snowboarder and has spent several winter seasons in the Alps and New Zealand.

This fun, practical 2 day course is ideal for those who use the mountains for recreation and for those who lead and work with groups in both urban and remote environments. Ideal for skiers, snowboarders, climbers, walkers, orienteers, Duke of Edinburgh etc.  The course covers the requirements of most National Governing Body Instructor awards eg ML, SPA, BCU, RYA, BOF, MIA, MIC etc and in particular is recognised by the British Association of Snowsport Instructors (BASI).

Training and scenarios are based on being more than several minutes, up to several hours from help or a rescue team arriving. The first day covers essential lifesaving techniques with the second day building upon this with more in depth first aid and plenty of practical outdoor scenarios.

Emphasis is placed on injuries specific to the mountain environment and the need to monitor casualties until help arrives. This course will give you the skills to cope with most minor or major first aid incidents and ensure that you feel confident dealing with them safely and systematically.

Core content: A systematic approach to incident management, vital signs, recovery position, CPR (adult and child), drowning, choking, heart attacks, bleeding, shock, hypothermia, head injuries, neck and spinal injuries, fractures, soft tissue injuries, common medical emergencies, outdoor scenarios etc.

Elements First Aid Training is a provider of Immediate Temporary Care (ITC) first aid courses. ITC is an awarding body recognised by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA) and approved by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

This outdoor first aid qualification is recognised by the Sector Skills Council (SSC), appearing upon the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), the Open Qualifications Network and the Learning Aims Database (LAD).
